boxer who in 1976 won an Olympic medal and the Val Barker Trophy (which is awarded to the most outstanding Olympic fighter) over his teammates and fellow gold medalists Michael and Leon Spikes and Sugar Ray Leonard, who was only 20 years old at the 1976 Games in Montreal and became a lightweight for most of his career with a blistering left jab, who had more than 100 wins as an amateur and also had a string of victories but lost a 1980 lightweight title bout against Jim Watt and never won a world title unlike the other 1976 gold medalists, and who retired from boxing in 1996 with a professional record of 36-6-1 with 14 knockouts.
